Dr. Fino Celano Selected for LEAD Award

The school district's assistant superintendent for personnel says he's both honored and humbled by the award.

Dr. Fino Celano, assistant superintendent for personnel for the Garden City school district, has been selected by St. John’s University as one of five honorees at the Fifth Annual Leaders in Education Awards Dinner (L.E.A.D.).

The dinner and awards ceremony was held last month at the Oakdale campus. Dr. Celano was nominated by Professor Linda Faucetta, a connection made through the St. John’s intern program, which the professor supervises and Garden City utilizes.

“I was quite honored and humbled by the award, and continue to be very proud and delighted to be part of Garden City’s administrative team,” Dr. Celano said.

He has held the position of assistant superintendent since 2005.

This is the second time an administrator in the school district has been selected for the award; Dr. Suzanne Viscovich, principal at Homestead School, was a recipient at last year’s dinner.
