Driver With 9 License Suspensions Arrested: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Jan. 11.
Jan. 5
- As a result of icy conditions, officers responded to several auto accidents and medical incidents throughout the village.
- A driver on Meadow Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and passing a stop sign.
- Officers arrested a motorist on Ring Road for driving with nine license suspensions and unsafe turning.
- A 36-year-old man was arrested for trespassing inside the taxi stand at the Garden City LIRR Station and damaging property within.

- A driver on New Hyde Park Road was charged with fraudulent license plates and unregistered operation.
- A driver on Clinton Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and using a cell phone.
Jan. 7
- Officers responded to 15 snowstorm-related calls which included auto accidents, medical injury reports, hazardous conditions, alarms and disabled vehicles.
- A truck struck the Cherry Valley overpass. Officers charged the driver with disobeying bridge clearance signs and unlicensed operation.
- A check placed in the mail at the Garden City Post Office was reportedly stolen, forged and cashed by an unknown person.
- Garden City detectives arrested a 58-year-old man for attempting to cash a forged $2,100 check in another person’s name at a Garden City bank. He was charged with identity theft, possession of a forged instrument, and grand larceny.
- A driver was charged with driving on Clinton Road with a suspended license and fraudulent license plates.
- A 28-year-old man was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident that occurred on Cherry Valley Avenue on Dec. 17.
- A driver on Meadow Street was charged with unlicensed operation and using a cell phone.

- A vehicle was reported stolen from a Carteret Place driveway. Garden City detectives traced the vehicle to a location in Newark. The investigation is ongoing.
- Police and firefighters responded to Kellum Place where black smoke was emanating from a building. Upon investigation, the cause was determined to be ongoing boiler work.
Jan. 9
- Officers investigated a report of a truck leaving the scene after striking and damaging an electronic pedestrian walk sign on Washington Avenue at Old Country Road.
- Police and firefighters responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be excess smoke from the fireplace. Firefighters rendered the residence safe by providing ventilation.
Jan. 10
- A vehicle was reported stolen from a Devereux Place driveway. It was found abandoned on the Long Island Expressway. The investigation is ongoing.
- A vehicle was reportedly damaged while parked in Parking Field 7S.
- Officers responded to a traffic light outage on Nassau Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.
- A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- Police and firefighters responded to Franklin Avenue for an odor of gas inside a building. Firefighters rendered the area safe after determining the cause was a malfunctioning boiler.
- Police and firefighters responded to 7th Street for a report of smoke inside a building. Upon investigation, firefighters determined the cause to be ongoing boiler maintenance.
Jan. 11
A Garden City Plaza business reported someone cashed a fraudulent check in the company’s name for $11,500.
Money was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Wellington Road.
Multiple fraudulent credit cards were reportedly opened using a resident's identity.
A driver on Meadow Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and suspended registration.
A man was seen on surveillance cameras walking in the rear yard of a 10th Street residence at 3:40 a.m.
