Ed Blatz Receives Chamber Foundation's Scholarship Award
The scholarship is awarded to a deserving GCHS senior who has excelled in the area of business and who best exemplifies the spirit of the Garden City business community.

At Garden City High School’s recent Class of 2013 Awards ceremony, Edward W. Blatz, Jr. received the Garden City Chamber of Commerce’s “Althea Robinson Excellence in Business Education Scholarship Award” in the amount of $3,000.
One of the initiatives of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce in 2007 had been the formation of a charitable foundation. One of the Foundation’s missions is to award an annual scholarship to a deserving Garden City High School senior who has excelled in the area of business and who best exemplifies the spirit of the Garden City business community.
Blatz had previously been recognized as a special guest at the 11th annual Pineapple Ball on April 19 at the Garden City Hotel.
Blatz had achieved a 95 average in his business classes and an overall GPA of 91 at Garden City High School. He had completed classes in finance, college business management, business law, marketing and advertising plus college accounting.
Additionally, Ed had served as captain of the Long island championship football team in the fall of 2012 and was named Academic All County and second team All Long Island. He was also named All Conference in basketball and All County in lacrosse for the 2012 New York championship team; and was a star team player in lacrosse during the spring of 2013.
Blatz had participated in a Leadership Program at Hofstra University in 2012 and completed an internship program at Merrill Lynch as well. He also volunteered at Island Harvest, New Ground and the Long Beach Wounded Warriors programs. Ed will attend Georgetown University this fall to study business and play lacrosse.
The Garden City Chamber and its charitable foundation congratulate Ed Blatz and wish him much success in his pursuits in the area of business.
