Fifth Grades F.O.C.U.S. on Team Building
Athletic Director Nancy Kalafus said the activity helped students learn the importance of teamwork and camaraderie.
Stewart's and Stratford’s fifth grades, Garden City’s Class of 2021, recently came together in a meaningful way on the middle school’s athletic field for a morning of team building activities.
“This is a wonderful experience for both schools to unite and come together,” Stratford principal Eileen Vota said. Athletic Director Nancy Kalafus echoed the sentiment, “The whole purpose of the activity is to emphasize the students’ connections between and within the schools, and for the students to learn the importance of teamwork and camaraderie.”
From volleyball to relay races, the kick-off F.O.C.U.S. (Fifth Grade Outdoor Education Community, Unity, Service) event had students working together to accomplish team goals as they rotated through a variety of physical education activities. The classes will meet up again for future trips during the school year, including a marine biology trip on the Great South Bay.
