GARDEN CITY, NY – Coffee-lovers in the village may have a new alternative to Starbucks as soon as this spring.

For Five Coffee Roasters is repurposing the former HSBC Bank branch, at 147 7th St., across the street from the international coffee giant’s shop, with plans to start serving its multi-sourced blends within a few months.

“We’re doing construction there right now and hoping to be open by April, fingers crossed,” said Chris Pappas, vice president at Compass Commercial and the New York state broker for For Five Coffee.

At 2,500 square feet, the Garden City shop will be the Queens-based company’s second on Long Island. A shop in Manhasset was opened in 2017, also in close proximity to a Starbucks, where it serves brews made with beans sourced from 30 regions around the world, as well as cappuccinos, cold brews and hot chocolates. The Manhasset shop’s food menu offers everything from felafel to tuna poke to vodka rigatoni.

A third shop in Port Washington, initially expected to open this spring, will more likely debut at the end of 2022, Pappas said. That shop too will open down the block from a Starbucks.
