Garden City To Seek New Volunteer Firefighters At Recruit Event

GARDEN CITY, NY — As part of a statewide initiative to recruit new members, the Garden City Fire Department will open its doors so residents can learn how they can serve as volunteers.

Garden City will join dozens of other volunteer fire departments to raise awareness about the need for volunteers.

The event takes place on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Stewart Avenue location.

Those in attendance will learn about equipment from volunteer firefighters.

“We welcome the community to join us during RecruitNY Weekend,” said Chief James Taunton. “This is an excellent opportunity for people to meet their local volunteer firefighters and
learn more about the fire service."

The department also has a junior program that introduces the high school students to firefighting and fire safety.
