Garden City Starts School Year After Police Examine Each Building
Before Tuesday's first day, Garden City police examined the safety, accessibility and emergency preparedness.

GARDEN CITY, NY — As students returned to school in Garden City Public Schools, police conducted a site assessment of each building.
Ahead of Tuesday's first day, Garden City police examined the safety, accessibility and emergency preparedness.
All security cameras were confirmed to be accessible and working, while alarms were functioning properly. Additionally, building 911 phones were connected to the Garden City Police Department and were in working order.

As part of the review at each school, officers also learned about updated floor plans. Commissioner Kenneth Jackson discussed procedures for lockdowns with school officials. Jackson and the detective unit went through the plan to familiarize everyone present with the Emergency Operations Procedure, including evacuation sites.
To start the school year, officers were assigned to every school building to meet with the administrative staff to ensure that all security measures previously discussed were in place.
