Nassau Man Faces Murder Charge For Sept. Shooting: DA

Kane Moore was indicted on Friday, prosecutors said.

MINEOLA, NY — A Hempstead man was indicted for the murder of a man after escalating a verbal argument, prosecutors said.

Kane Moore, 30, was arraigned on Friday on charges of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced.

"A simple gathering among friends turned deadly when this defendant allegedly pulled a gun during a card game and ended Maurice Sinclair Thomas’ life," Donnelly said.

During the overnight hours on September 21 at Moore, Maurice Sinclair Thomas and a group of friends were playing cards in the rear parking lot of a residence on Yale Street in Hempstead, Donnelly said.

An argument ensued between Moore and Thomas, and Moore allegedly pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and shot Thomas once in the left side, the D.A.'s office said.

Moore, who fled the scene, was arrested one month later in Detroit, Michigan, Donnelly said.

He is due back in court on November 22, If convicted, Moore faces up to 40 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.
