Hempstead's Memorial Day Parade, Oldest On LI, Steps Off On May 26

HEMPSTEAD, NY — The Village of Hempstead hosts its 139th Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, May 26.

Marching units will assemble at Legion Square (corner of Greenwich Street and Marvin Street) for the oldest Memorial Day on Long Island.

The parade will include a brief ceremony at Greenfield Cemetery's Civil War monument.

Hempstead's Memorial Day, which dates back to 1886, is ranked eighth in a national survey of travel experts for the best place to honor the holiday.

Hempstead's parade is open to military, churches, civil organizations, legions and school bands.
