Long Island Man Charged With Killing His Mother, 85: Police

A woman died a week after her son was accused causing her injuries, police say. The woman's daughter also faces abuse charges, police say.

ROOSEVELT, NY — A Roosevelt man was arrested Wednesday after he was accused of inflicting fatal injuries on his mother in September, Nassau police said. The woman's daughter also faces charges, police said.

Officers were called to a Roosevelt home to perform a wellness check on Carmel McDougall, 85, around 2:40 p.m. Sept. 12, police said. Officers found McDougall unresponsive and brought her to a nearby hospital, where she died on Sept. 18, police said.

McDougall's son, Michael Rainford McDougall, 65, of Roosevelt, was accused of inflicting the injuries that caused his mother's death, and he was arrested on Wednesday, police said.

The woman's daughter, Nichole McDougall Mullings, 55, of Roosevelt, was also arrested in connection with other abusive actions that occurred on Aug. 30, police said.

Michael Rainford McDougall was charged with second-degree manslaughter.

Nichole McDougall Mullings was charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.

Both siblings were arraigned on Thursday at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.
