GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Dec. 28.

Dec. 22

  • A driver on Franklin Ave at 4th Street was charged with driving with a suspended license, suspended registration, and improper license plates.
  • Officers responded to Washington Avenue and St. James Street South for a traffic light malfunction.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a 7th Street building for a fire alarm and determined the cause was a faulty detector.
  • Officers arrested a 19-year-old man for attacking and threatening to seriously harm a family member. He was charged with harassment and menacing.

  • Officers responded to a traffic light malfunction on Clinton Road at Old Country Road.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a residence for a minor outlet fire.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause was construction.
  • A vehicle was reported stolen from the driveway of a Wyatt Road residence.
  • Property was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at the Cherry Valley Country Club.

Dec. 24

  • Property was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at Garden City Plaza.
  • A tractor trailer struck the Cherry Valley train overpass. The trailer sustained extensive damage and its contents spilled onto the roadway. The driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a residence for a carbon monoxide alarm and determined the cause to be a faulty detector.

  • Police and firefighters responded to fire calls at three residences where the cause was overcooked food.
  • Officers responded to Merillon Avenue for a 911 hang up call. Officers canvassed the area but found nothing.

Dec. 26

  • Police and firefighters responded to a residence for a report of a carbon monoxide alarm and determined the cause to be a faulty detector.

Dec. 27

  • Officers investigated a report of a person’s address being changed on his credit cards accounts without permission.
  • Officers investigated a report of a man physically harassing an employee inside a Garden City Plaza office.
  • Police and firefighters responded to St. Anne’s School for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be construction.
  • Police responded to Weyford Terrace and confirmed a report of a power outage. PSEG was notified.

Dec. 28

  • Police and firefighters responded to a residence for a fire call and determined the call was overcooked food.
  • Police received a report of a person’s identity being used to open fraudulent bank accounts.
