Man Faces Robbery Charge In Garden City Theft: Police

A man stole items from Nordstrom Rack and had a brief struggle with the loss prevention agents who tried to stop him, police say.

GARDEN CITY, NY — A Mount Vernon man faces a robbery charge in connection with a theft attempt at a store in Garden City on Saturday, Nassau police said.

Officers were called to Nordstrom Rack, at 1040 Old Country Road, for a robbery in progress around 6:05 p.m., police said. Darrell Walker, 43, grabbed various items, hid them, and left the store without paying, police said. When loss prevention agents approached Walker, a brief struggle ensued, police said.

Officers placed Walker into custody without further incident, police said. All store merchandise was recovered, and no injuries were reported, police said.

Walker was charged with third-degree robbery and petty larceny, police said.

He had been scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.
