Man Stole Running Car From Nassau Road: Police

Police say the man stole the car and drove it to a nearby 7-Eleven, where he was arrested.

GARDEN CITY PARK, NY — A New Jersey man was arrested Sunday after police say he stole a car.

According to police, officers responded to a call on Jericho Turnpike at 9 a.m. for a car that was stolen. A 57-year-old man said he left his car running and unlocked on the shoulder, and it was stolen.

A short time later, officers found the car in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven at 400 East Jericho Turnpike. Officers investigated, and police say they arrested Mohamed Elgendy, 31, of Piscataway, New Jersey.

Police say Elgendy had a glass pipe that contained a rock believed to be crack cocaine.

Elgendy was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead when medically practical.
