Man Threatened Employees With Knife While Robbing Store: NCPD

Police say he was stealing coats and sweaters from Macy's when he was caught by employees.

EAST GARDEN CITY, NY — A Nassau man was arrested Saturday after police say he tried to rob a store in the Roosevelt Field Mall at knifepoint.

According to police, two loss prevention officers at Macy's, located at 630 Old Country Road, saw Antwain Key, 32, of Hempstead, fill a bag with sweaters and jackets. Police say that Key then left the store without paying for the merchandise.

The loss prevention officers stopped Key in the parking lot, and police say he pulled out a black knife and threatened them, and then ran to the upper deck of the parking lot.

Police officers responded and found Key in the parking lot, and placed him under arrest without incident.

Key is charged with first-degree attempted robbery, third-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, false impersonation, petty larceny, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree menacing. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday. He was ordered held on bail of $10,000 cash or bond, which was not posted.

Police say that Kay had been arrested on Jan. 25 and charged with four counts of third-degree burglary. He was released without bail on Jan. 26.
