Man Tried To Rob Teenager Of His Sweater In Nassau: Police

The man held an airsoft gun to the teenager and tried demanding his sweater, police say.

EAST GARDEN CITY, NY — A man was arrested after Nassau police said he tried to rob a man, using a fake gun, on Thursday in East Garden City.

A teenager was waiting for a bus on Old Country Road when he was approached by a man he did not know at 8:40 p.m., police said.

Christian Altidor, 19, of Hempstead, while wearing a face covering, displayed what appeared to be a handgun and demanded a red sweater the teenager was wearing before fleeing the scene, police said. The teenager then called police, police said.

Altidor was placed into custody, police said. No injuries were reported, police said.

During the investigation, officers recovered a black airsoft handgun, police said.

Altidor was charged with first-degree attempted robbery; second-degree menacing; fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon; and a violation of title 90: Mask Transparency Act, police said.

He is set to be arraigned on Friday at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.
