Man Was Making Crack In Garden City Motel Room: Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Feb. 8.

Feb. 2

  • Officers assisted firefighters with a residential carbon monoxide alarm. Upon detecting high levels of carbon monoxide due to a defective boiler, firefighters safeguarded the home by turning off the boiler and venting the residence.
  • A driver on Nassau Boulevard was charged with driving with a suspended license and uninsured operation.
  • Officers responded to a railroad gate malfunction at the Stewart Manor crossing on New Hyde Park Road.
  • A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
  • Garden City Detectives arrested a 23-year-old man for cashing a forged $14,500 check against a Garden City business account. He was charged with identity theft, possession of a forged instrument, and grand larceny.

  • Police and firefighters responded to a 7th Street building for a fire call and determined the cause to be burst water pipes.
  • Two drivers on Rockaway Avenue were charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed in a school zone.
  • Multiple unauthorized ATM transactions were reportedly made against a resident’s credit card account.
  • As a result of an investigation at the Residence Inn, Garden City Detectives arrested a 41-year-old man who was making crack-cocaine in his room. He was also in possession of large quantities of crack-cocaine and crystal meth. He was charged with four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. The investigation is ongoing.

Feb. 4

  • A driver on Hilton Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license, suspended registration, and uninspected vehicle.
  • Loose money was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Tullamore Road and a vehicle parked on Greenridge Park.
  • Officers investigated a report of a person’s identity being used to illegally register a vehicle he does not own.

  • As a result of a domestic incident investigation at a Garden City residence, Officers arrested a 45-year-old man for intentionally damaging property. He was charged with two counts of criminal mischief.
  • A car was reported stolen from a Middleton Road residence. Surveillance cameras show the incident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. The investigation is ongoing.
  • A person’s identity was reported stolen and used to open an unauthorized bank account.
  • Two drivers on Meadow Street were charged with driving with suspended licenses as well as other traffic offenses.

Feb. 6

  • An car was reported stolen from a Princeton Street residence. The investigation is ongoing.
  • A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and for two young children not properly restrained in child safety seats.
  • A resident reported his personal information was used without authorization to apply for a business loan.

Feb. 7

  • Garden City Detectives arrested a 36-year-old man for the theft of a person’s credit card from a gym locker and using it to purchase merchandise at a nearby store. He was charged with two counts of identity theft, grand larceny, possession of stolen property, and an outstanding fugitive warrant from Massachusetts for similar offenses. Detectives are assisting multiple out-of-state agencies regarding the subject’s possible involvement in similar cases in their jurisdictions.
  • An employee from a Garden City business received an email from what appeared to be a supervisor directing her to purchase gift cards for a job-related matter. The employee realized this was a scam and did not purchase the cards.
  • A driver in the vicinity of the middle school was charged with unlicensed operation and operating a handheld device.
  • A resident reportedly received a past due notice from an online payment service he never used.

Feb. 8

  • Officers responded to traffic light malfunctions on Stewart Avenue at Edgemere Road and Clinch Avenue.
  • A driver on Chestnut Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and expired inspection.
  • Officers notified the Garden City Water Department after confirming a reported water main break on Warton Place.
  • A driver on Prospect Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.
  • A driver on Kingsbury Road was charged with excessive speed and disregarding a Stop sign.
  • A truck driver on Edgemere Road was charged with driving in a no-truck zone, unsafe lane use, and failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer.
