Motorcyclist Attacked At Traffic Light In Nassau: Police

Dester Ramirez Hernandez faces charges that include robbery and assault, police said.

NEW CASSEL, NY — An assault took place at a traffic light in New Cassel on Monday, police said.

A male, 23, operating a 1995 Harley Davidson, at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Grand Street, was approached by an unknown man on foot and knocked off his motorcycle, police said.

The victim was hit several times and his cell phone was removed. After fleeing, Dester Ramirez Hernandez, 32, of Hempstead, was located and placed under arrest without incident, police said.

Ramirez Hernandez and the victim were both taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment, police said.

Ramirez Hernandez is charged with third-degree robbery, fourth-degree grand larceny and third-degree assault, police said. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
