Community 'Mourning Tragic Loss' of Nassau Judge, Killed In Crash

GARDEN CITY, NY — The death of New York State Supreme Court Justice Dawn Jimenez-Salta, who came to the courthouse in Mineola in January 2022, is being felt by many.

"The New York State Unified Court System family is mourning the tragic loss of New York State Supreme Court Justice," Al Baker, the spokesperson for the state's Office of Court Administration, said in a statement.

Jimenez-Salta was killed on the Long Island Expressway on Sunday as a passenger in a motorcycle crash near Exit 68 in Yaphank, police said.

Jimenez, 60, who lived in Garden City, previously worked as a justice in Brooklyn, Trellis.com said.

"I am saddened to hear of the untimely and tragic passing of Garden City resident and New York State Supreme Court Justice Dawn Jimenez-Salta," Garden City Mayor Mary Carter Flanagan said in a statement. "Our community will look for ways to show our support for the family as they grieve this unimaginable loss.

The 65-year-old male driver of the motorcycle was hospitalized with serious injuries, Suffolk police said.

"Her death has deeply impacted her friends, colleagues, and coworkers, particularly those who worked beside her on the bench, and our thoughts are with her loved ones at this sad time," Baker said.
