Multiple Catalytic Converters Reported Stolen In Nassau County

The theft of the car part is on the rise. See where thieves struck this week, according to Nassau County police.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — The theft of catalytic converters from cars is on the rise across the country, and Nassau County is no exception.

A catalytic converter is part of a vehicle's exhaust system. It converts the engine exhaust to less hazardous gases, and uses valuable metals to do so. Catalytic converters can contain platinum, palladium or rhodium, which make them prime targets for thieves, since they can sell the metals for scrap.

Nassau County police reported the following thefts of catalytic converters for the week ending Sept. 1.
