Murder Charge For Fatal Weekend Stabbing In LI Basement: Police

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A Roosevelt man has been arrested and charged in connection to a fatal stabbing in Hempstead over the weekend, Nassau police said.

Jose W. Funes-Zabala, 43, was charged with second-degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

The victim, identified as 29-year-old Brenda Guadalupe Alfaro-Alcantara, of Hempstead, was found Saturday evening with multiple stab wounds in the basement of a residence on Botsford Street, police said.

Funes-Zabala was arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
