Nassau Man Arrested Returning To His Home With Gun: Police

Police say a crisis unit alerted officers that the man was going back to his home with a loaded gun.

SOUTH FLORAL PARK, NY — A South Floral Park man was arrested Monday evening after police say officers found he had a loaded handgun.

According to police, officers were alerted by the Nassau County Mobile Crisis Intervention Team that a man who may have a gun was heading back to his home in South Floral Park. When officers arrived, they found a car and person matching the description they were given pull up in front of the home.

Officers spoke to the driver — Khalil Dapries, 31 — who police say was evasive and started making furtive movements. The officers removed him from the car and placed him under arrest, police said.

Police say the officers recovered a Springfield Armory XD .45 caliber handgun with five bullets.

Dapries is charged with second- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
