Nassau Man Charged With 1st Degree Murder In Shooting: Police

Police say they arrested a man in connection with a shooting in Hempstead that happened in January.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Nassau County police arrested a Hempstead man and charged him in connection with a murder that occurred there in January.

At 10:55 p.m. on Jan. 30, Hempstead police officers responded to a call for shots fired near the intersection of Peninsula Boulevard and Sewell Street. When they arrived, they found 49-year-old Santos Valeriano Argueta, of Hempstead, lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

Argueta was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.

On Feb. 9, Nassau County police arrested Deshawn Martin, 25, of Hempstead, in connection with the murder.

Martin is charged with first-degree murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
