Neighbor Charged With Homicide For Fatal Nassau Fire: Police

One person was killed and two others injured in the fire, which started early Monday morning.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A Nassau County man has been charged with homicide in relation to a fatal fire in Hempstead that killed one and injured two others.

According to police, the fire started around 6:30 a.m. Monday in a second-floor bedroom of a multi-family home at 103 Front St. The Hempstead, South Hempstead, West Hempstead, Uniondale and Roosevelt fire departments all responded to fight the fire.

A woman was killed in the blaze, and a man was hospitalized with burns to his face, hands and arms. Another man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries to his ankles from jumping out of a second-floor window.

After an investigation, police say they arrested Daryle McClenic, 35, who lived next door to the home.

McClenic has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned today in First District Court in Hempstead and ordered held on bail of $250,000 cash or $500,000 bond, which was not posted.
