Gillen Declares Victory In NY 4th CD Democratic Primary

GARDEN CITY, NY — Laura Gillen has declared victory in the Democratic primary to represent NY's 4th Congressional District.
Gillen was declared the winner by NBC News and The Associated Press. Gillen held a sizable lead Tuesday night.

Carrie Solages: 4,881
Keith M. Corbett: 2,169

“Tonight, voters spoke loud and clear that they want a representative who will fight tooth and nail against GOP politicians in Washington who want to pass a national abortion ban without exceptions to rape, incest or even if the woman’s life is in danger,” Gillen said in a statement. “Healthcare decisions, including basic birth control, are between a woman and her doctor, not by Washington politicians trying to score political points with their extremist base. We cannot allow women to be stripped of their civil liberties and autonomy over their healthcare decisions.”

There were four candidates running in the race: Keith Corbett, the mayor of the Village of Malverne; Laura Gillen, former Town of Hempstead Supervisor; Carrié Solages, a Nassau County Legislator; and Dr. Muzibul Huq, a doctor and humanitarian.
The winner go on to face Republican Anthony D'Esposito, a Town of Hempstead Councilman, in the general election in November.
The 4th Congressional District is currently represented by Kathleen Rice, who announced this will be her last term in Congress.
