NY 4th Congressional District Democratic Primary Preview

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Democratic residents of the 4th Congressional District can go to the polls tomorrow to vote for one of four candidates in their party's primary.

Rep. Kathleen Rice announced this would be her last term in Congress, and many people have stepped up to try to fill her seat — three with political experience, and one outsider looking to make change.

Keith Corbett, the current mayor of the Village of Malverne. Among his top issues are preserving a woman's right to have an abortion, protecting the environment and ensuring every American has the right and ability to vote.

Laura Gillen is the former supervisor of the Town of Hempstead, and the first Democrat to have held the position in more than 100 years. She is also running to preserve voting and women's reproductive rights. She also wants to repeal the SALT cap and combat price gouging. She's also championing universal background checks for gun purchases.

Dr. Muzibul Huq is an outside candidate running for office. His main issues are providing ongoing COVID-19 relief, building racial harmony and rebuilding the country's infrastructure.

Carrié Solages is currently a Nassau County Legislator. One of his top priorities is national security. He says he would immediately call for a constitutional convention in the United Nations to address the war in Ukraine, and would fight for the military to have the most advance technology possible. He also said he would start an international marketing program against chemical and nuclear weapons.

Whichever of the four Democrats wins, they will be facing Republican Anthony D'Esposito, a current councilman in the Town of Hempstead, in the general election in November.
