Officer Hit By Driver Trying To Flee Mall With Stolen Property: Police
2 women were arrested and charged after being caught with stolen property and trying to flee, hitting an officer, police say.
EAST GARDEN CITY, NY — Two women were arrested after they tried to flee a Long Island mall with stolen property and hit an officer, police said.
While on patrol Friday evening, an officer was struck by a woman driving a white Honda Accord exiting a parking spot in the Roosevelt Field mall parking garage, police said.
When the officer exited his vehicle and approached Shaquanna Gibbs, 26, of Roosevelt, she attempted to flee the scene, striking the officer’s arm with her vehicle, authorities said.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop when Gibbs drove onto the curb, disabling the vehicle, police said.
Gibbs and her passenger were placed under arrest and transported to a local area hospital for evaluation, police said.

The officer was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.
Further investigation revealed Gibbs and the passenger, Kyla Mason, 28, of Hempstead, were found to have stolen property, police said.
Gibbs was charged with second-degree assault and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said.
She was expected to be arraigned on Saturday.
Mason was charged with fifth-degree possession of stolen property and was released on an appearance ticket, police said.
