Opera Comes to The Garden City Historical Society

Opera Night founder and director Isabella Eredita Johnson brings the melodious and often bold sounds of opera to the Museum Nov. 17.

The Garden City Historical Society proudly presents a performance by Opera Night, Long Island, a nonprofit organization that provides affordable opera of the highest caliber, performed by some of Long Island’s finest established singers and emerging young talent.

“Opera Comes to The Garden City Historical Society” will debut on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 17, at 3 p.m., in the Victorian setting of the Historical Society Museum, 109 Eleventh Street, Garden City.

Open seating begins at 2:30 p.m. Ticket donation is $25; light refreshments follow the performance. The Society will publicize additional details about the opera selections that will be performed and the singers in the coming weeks.

Founded in 2004 by classical pianist Isabella Eredita Johnson, Opera Night began as an informal "open mic" gathering of opera lovers at a café in Northport, where singers were invited to bring sheet music for arias and duets and show off their talents for the community.

Opera Night singers range from teenagers to senior citizens, and from seasoned pros to talented amateurs—all sharing a love of performing opera arias for enthusiastic local audiences.

In addition to regular performances in Northport and Oyster Bay, Opera Night’s base locations, Opera Night has met requests over the years to perform in Greenlawn, Huntington, Manhasset, Lindenhurst, Commack, Roslyn and Douglaston.

Due to limited seating, tickets to “Opera Comes to The Garden City Historical Society” must be purchased in advance. Guests may purchase tickets by mail through Nov. 10.
