Students Place 2nd In Marching Band Season Opening Competitions

The Garden City Marching Band traveled to New Jersey on Oct. 4 for its 1st competition of the season.

GARDEN CITY, NY — Garden City High School's Garden City Marching Band traveled to West Milford, New Jersey for its first competition of the season, earning second place, the district said.

The GCMB Trojans scored an 80.80, as well as earned the following awards: Best Color Guard, Best Percussion, and Best Visuals.

“The level of commitment from our students and staff is exceptional, and it shows in their field performance,” said District Coordinator of Music and Arts Ms. Akira Regan, in a release. “This achievement reflects the vision, skill, and teamwork of everyone involved. Our students’ hard work at every rehearsal pays off, and I’m excited to see their continued growth this season. We are also grateful to our parent association for their support on and off the field.”

The band performed in another competition, this time at MetLife Stadium on Oct. 18, placing second out of 12 bands.

They scored an 84.80 and won Best Visuals again. They competed against 11 bands from across the Northeast.

“A highlight of our season is always performing at MetLife Stadium,” said Mr. DanDellaMonica, GCMB director. “Earning second place at this prestigious venue is especially meaningful and is a testament to the dedication of our instructors, staff, and most importantly, our students.”
