Susan Lucci, Son Helping Those Less Fortunate
Duo will serve as honorary chairs of an annual fundraiser organized to benefit a homeless outreach program on the East End.
One of Garden City's most well-known celebrities will be reaching out to help those less fortunate.
Television star Susan Lucci and her son, Andreas Huber, a reality TV name and golfer, will serve as honorary chairs of the Maureen's Haven annual Lobster Bash fundraiser, to be held Aug. 22 at Dockers Waterside in East Quogue.
Lucci, well-known for her years spent playing daytime drama's Erica Kane on "All My Children," has long spent Hamptons summers in her house on Dune Road in Quogue, with husband Helmut Huber, and children Liza and Andreas.
Now, Lucci is giving back to the community and to Maureen's Haven, a homeless outreach program that provides food and shelter for the homeless during the cold winter months at local houses of worship.
Developers Gregg Rechler and Mitchell Rechler will also serve as presenting sponsors at the Lobster Bash.
“We are thrilled that Susan Lucci and Andreas Huber have so graciously agreed to lend their support,” said Maureen’s Haven executive director Tracey Lutz. “It’s a critically important fundraiser for us and adding their star power will help ensure that Maureen’s Haven has the resources to carry out its mission.”
Lucci, who won an Emmy for her work on “All My Children,” wowed on “Dancing With The Stars,” and had a dream come true when she starred on Broadway in “Annie Get Your Gun," has deep roots on the East End. For rejuvenation and sanctuary, Lucci says she and her family have always returned home to Quogue.
Joann Piche, chairwoman of the Maureen’s Haven board of directors, thanked the Rechlers, developers and cousins, for stepping up.
“We are so grateful that they are helping to underwrite the costs involved in mounting this fundraiser,” she said. “Their generous support in 2012 and again this year is essential to the event’s success.”
The Rechlers, both of whom have homes on the East End, are currently developing The Hampton Business District at Gabreski Airport, in Westhampton Beach, and the Canoe Place Inn project in Hampton Bays.
This year's Lobster Bash will have a country theme, said Lobster Bash event chair and director of tenant and community development at the Hamptons Business District Ellen Cea.
“To complement the great food and drink, we’re serving up live country music, line dancing and a whole lot of other country surprises. It’s all about having fun,” Cea said.

Now in its eleventh year, Maureen’s Haven also provides vocational and educational training to homeless adults and families throughout the East End.
Proceeds raised from the Lobster Bash will directly benefit Maureen’s Haven’s winter shelter program and its day center, which serves those in need year round.
