Five Upcoming Events in Garden City

Haunted hikes, a senior health expo, a fall festival and more.

Senior Health Expo: A senior health expo at the St. Paul's Field House Thursday, Oct. 3, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will offer free screenings and flu shots, testings and more. No appointments are needed and no out-of-pocket costs associated with flu and pneumonia shots. For a full list of services to be offered, click here. Flu shots will be dispensed in cooperation with NuHealth (Nassau University Medical Center) to persons 60 years of age and older and their spouses. Those coming for a flu shot need to bring a photo ID and insurance information and wear loose clothing. For questions, email Sen. Kemp Hannon at hannon@nysenate.gov or call 739-1700.

Fire Prevention Day
: The Garden City Fire Department will hold its annual Fire Prevention Day Sunday, Oct. 6, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Fire Headquarters. The event, which is open to all residents, will include fire safety handouts, home fire safety demonstrations, giveaways and refreshments, all free of charge. This year's theme is "How to Prevent Kitchen Fires."

Fall Festival Street Fair
: The Garden City Chamber of Commerce will hold its 34th annual fall festival street fair on Seventh Street, between Franklin and Hilton avenues, Saturday, Oct. 26, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Garden City High School's Homecoming parade will step off promptly at 1 p.m. followed by the Garden City High School football game at 3 p.m.

The Great Pumpkin Patch
: The Unitarian Universalist Congregation's great pumpkin patch is slated to open Saturday, Oct. 5 and will be open seven days a week through Oct. 31. The patch also sells mums, gourds, hay and more. Proceeds will help support the church.

Halloween Haunted Hikes
: Halloween Haunted Hikes return to the Tanners Pond Environmental Center Friday, Oct. 18, 6-10 p.m. (Scary and not-so-scary hikes are available.) Refreshments will be available. Save $2 when you purchase tickets in advance through Oct. 12. Email gchalloween@gmailc.om or call 326-1720 for tickets.
