Kaji Sushi & Lounge Open For Business: Garden City's newest Asian-themed restaurant, Kaji Sushi & Lounge, celebrated its grand opening Sept. 13.

ELA, Math Test Scores in the Mail: Individualized score reports for children in Grades 3-8 that took the New York State English Language Arts (ELA) and math exams last spring should be in the mail by month's end.

Waldorf's 5th Grade Explores Science in the Classroom Before Trip to NH: Next week, Waldorf’s fifth grade is heading north to Camp Glen Brook – the school’s 240-acre extension campus. The theme for their trip will be botany and provides the class a chance to discover and learn about a wide variety of plants and trees.

Andy Foundation Still Accepting Donations For Fall Sale: There's still time to donate items to the Andy Foundation's first annual "Home, Holiday and Harvest" fall yard sale, to be held Sunday, Oct. 6 on the grounds of St. Paul's.

Crime Blotter: Bike Accident, Car Break-Ins at Community Park: Officers responded to County Seat Drive Sept. 11 where a bicyclist traveling south collided with a car door that was just opened. The bicyclist was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for chest and shoulder injuries.

District Making Enhancements to School Security: Garden City school officials are making security improvements to all nine district buildings thanks to a $25,000 grant secured by Sen. Kemp Hannon, R-Garden City.

Garden City Hotel Debuts Legacy Museum: A permanent museum dedicated to the history of the four Garden City Hotels on that site is now part of the hotel's lobby.

Barnes Gallery Art Show to Feature PHAN: Barnes Gallery will feature photographs by members of the Photo Artists' Network (PHAN) during a month-long art show that kicks off Oct. 1.

Sunday Hours Restored at the Library: Effective Oct. 20 the Garden City Public Library will once again be open on Sundays.

Rally Day at Garden City Community Church: Rally Day at Garden City Community Church provided a great start to the new Church School year. Students, parents, teachers, musicians and ministers all reunited after the summer to learn about the Bible and form new friendships.

Workshop: Internet Safety and Your Kids: A workshop at the Garden City Public Library Oct. 10 will focus on Internet use amongst kids and young adults and how to keep them safe from predators, cyber bullying and more.

Seventh Street Staple Shutters: A Seventh Street staple has closed its doors. Riesterer's Bakery, located at 96 Seventh Street, served the Garden City community for more than five decades.

Gina Naomi Baez to Premiere Music Video: Gina Naomi Baez, who became a regular at Friday night promenades on Seventh Street in Garden City this summer, is premiering a new music video later this month at the AMC Loews Raceway Theater.

Non-Resident Parking Permits Available For Purchase Monday: Beginning Monday non-resident parking permits for the Stewart Manor railroad station went on sale.

Garden City Teen Volunteers for DA's Youth Court: A Garden City teen is getting his feet wet inside the courtroom through an innovative program that enables him to learn about the inner workings of the criminal justice system.

Ground-and-Pound: Rushing Frenzy Leads Trojans Past Colts: Four players rushed for at least 68 yards Saturday as the Garden City football team beat Calhoun High School 58-7.

GC Girls Defeat Clarke in Opener: The girls came out a little slow in their first league match against Clarke and didn't really get the ball moving until about 20 minutes into the game.
