Montrose, the home of the 19th-century poet and New Evening Post editor, is on the market for the first time in 50 years, realtor says.

ROSLNY, NY — A piece of Long Island history is for sale for the first time in a half century. "Montrose" in Roslyn was once the home of famous 19th-century poet William Cullen Bryant, and is now listed for sale for $2.99 million.
Bryant was one of the most prominent American poets in the 1800s, a contemporary of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. He was also the editor of the New York Evening Post for 50 years, and schoolchildren were required to memorize his most famous poem “Thanatopsis" by heart.
According to the Roslyn Landmark Society, 410 Bryant Avenue was built sometime before 1834 on a tract of land with a long history in Roslyn, including being the site of an early mill on Hempstead Harbor.
