Glen Cove To Hold 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

The ceremony will honor the four Glen Cove residents who lost their lives on that tragic day 17 years ago.

The City of Glen Cove will host a remembrance ceremony Tuesday, Sept. 11 in honor of the tragic day that occurred 17 years ago. The ceremony will take place at Glen Cove’s Heritage Garden at Mill Pond Park at 6:30 p.m.

The ceremony will recognize the four paving stones that were donated by the City in memory of the four Glen Cove residents who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001: Edward J. Lehman, Matthew T. McDermott, John F. Puckett and Joseph J. Zuccala.

The opening ceremony will also feature a color guard presentation, performance by noted saxophonist Richie Cannata and a special daffodil planting in honor of 2,997 people whose lives were lost 17 years ago.

“In recognizing the 17th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, we not only honor those who lost their lives in the world’s worst act of terrorism but we also acknowledge the memory of four Glen Cove residents who never returned home and the first responders who were on the scene and to this day continue to suffer from health related illnesses as a result of this tragedy” Glen Cove Mayor Tim Tenke said.

The ceremony will also feature the laying of a memorial wreath at the 9/11 memorial, special remarks and patriotic performances.
