Glen Cove Nurse Receives SUNY Old Westbury Cause For Applause Award

GLEN COVE, NY — Glen Cove resident Adele Gutierrez was awarded the 2023 SUNY Old Westbury Cause for Applause Award during a Staff Appreciation Barbecue and Service Awards held on Tuesday, according to a news release.

Gutierrez, who serves as a nurse in the campus’ Student Health Center, was recognized for going above and beyond her assigned responsibilities, and for exemplifying innovation in her work, the release stated.

“The dedication of our staff is a driving force behind our greatest achievements,” Old Westbury President Timothy E. Sams said. “I am grateful that the university community is able to come together to recognize the professionalism and spirit with which we serve our students — together.”

The Cause for Applause Award was selected through a campus nomination process and reviewed by the Staff Forum, a volunteer group serving as a medium for administrators and staff to discuss pertinent university issues, and serves as a liaison for staff members with senior administration of the campus, according to officials.

Gutierrez’s honor was one of four new awards presented to exemplary members of the campus’ team, officials said.
