Homeless Man Pleads Guilty To Attempted Murder In Glen Cove
The man set another homeless man on fire in a wooded area last year, authorities say.

A homeless man pleaded guilty on Wednesday to attempted murder charges in connection to setting a man on fire in Glen Cove last year, according to Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas.
German Umanzor, 38, pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder. He is expected to be sentenced to 17 years in prison on November 13.
“Setting fire to a sleeping man is a horrific crime, and today’s plea ensures this defendant will pay a heavy price for his conduct,” Singas said in a press release. “The burns caused by German Umanzor’s depravity required the amputation of the victim’s legs, and it is a miracle that he survived. We continue to pray for the victim’s recovery, and hope that today’s plea provides some comfort.”

Another acquaintance called 911, and officers responded to the area to find the man suffering from serious burns to both of his lower legs. The man was airlifted to Nassau Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
