GLEN HEAD, NY — A Glen Head woman heads to the finale, with a chance to win a hefty cash prize, in the world's first avatar singing competition series "Alter Ego."

FOX's new show, which debuted in September, gives 20 contestants the unique opportunity to dress up in motion-capture suits and perform a song backstage for a panel of powerhouse judges. It's similar to the network's hit TV show "The Masked Singer" — in which contestants have secret identities. But instead of performing behind a mask, contestants are belting out tunes in real-time through a CGI avatar.

As the only contestant from Long Island, 21-year-old Samaera Hirsch will be competing for $100,000 and a chance to create an album, with help from the show's four celebrity judges: Alanis Morissette, Nick Lachey, Grimes, and will.i.am.

She moves on to the finale with Israa Darwich (a.k.a. Night Journey). The second and final semifinal showdown, featuring four other competitors, is set to air on Dec. 1. The finale is scheduled for Dec. 8.
