Motorcyclist Killed In Nassau Chain-Reaction Crash Has Been Identified

Nassau County police have identified the man who died in Thursday's chain-reaction crash involving a suspected drunken driver​.

BROOKVILLE, NY — Authorities have identified the motorcyclist killed in Thursday's chain-reaction crash involving a suspected drunken driver.

Nassau County police say Milton Diaz, 33, of Glen Cove, died after getting entangled in live wires that were knocked down by a young, intoxicated female driver. The tragedy unfolded shortly after midnight in Brookville.

According to police, a 21-year-old woman was heading north on Cedar Swamp Road when she lost control of her Ford sedan. The vehicle flipped over and struck a telephone pole, ripping out power wires.

Minutes later, Diaz was riding northbound on Cedar Swamp Drive when police said he "became entangled in the wires" and lost control of his Honda motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say responding officers observed that the female driver had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and an odor of alcohol emanating from her breath. She was arrested without incident and taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The unidentified female driver has been charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicular manslaughter. An investigation is ongoing.
