'That Sense Of Connection Is Truly Priceless:' Mansion At Glen Cove Hosts Luncheon For Seniors
All costs were covered by the event, giving Glen Cove Senior Center's members a luncheon full of holiday cheer.

GLEN COVE, NY — The Mansion at Glen Cove hosted its second annual luncheon for Glen Cove Senior Center members, covering costs and staffing, and giving folks a chance for connection during the holiday season.
Eric Shuman, Glen Cove resident and activity coordinator for the Glen Cove Senior Center, said the event on Dec. 29 began with the owners and management of the mansion reaching out to the senior center last year: "They wanted to give back to the senior community."
More than 175 of the senior center's members were at the event, eating, laughing, and enjoying the hospitality, Shuman said.

"Events like this are incredibly important because they give our seniors a chance to connect, feel supported, and enjoy a sense of community," Shuman said.
Loneliness can be a harsh reality for seniors, especially during the holidays, Shuman said.

"For some of our seniors, this center is the only place where they have regular social interaction," he said. "Many do not have family or close friends nearby, and the holidays can feel isolating. A gathering like this gives them something meaningful to look forward to."
He added that these events support seniors in many ways.
"Beyond the meal itself, these gatherings create moments of joy, laughter, and belonging," Shuman said. "They remind our seniors that they are valued, seen, and appreciated. That sense of connection is truly priceless, and it’s why we work so hard to provide opportunities like this throughout the year."
In addition to fostering connection, the event also provided financial relief so everyone could be included without worry. Shuman said he gives his thanks to the Mansion at Glen Cove for making this a reality.
"Many of our members are on fixed incomes, and the holiday season can be especially difficult," he said. "Offering a free luncheon not only eases the financial burden but also allows everyone to participate in the celebration without worry."
Shuman said that many of the seniors expressed that the luncheon was the highlight of their holiday season, giving them excuses to dress to impress.
"Our members truly look forward to this event each year," he said. "It gives them the chance to enjoy a wonderful meal, dress up, and experience a warm, festive atmosphere that makes them feel special during the holidays."
