A Weekend of Wellness and Workouts Downtown
The Glen Cove Downtown BIDs Wellness Day gets the community up and moving, enjoying the outdoors and trying new locally run workout classes.
The only thing raining on Saturday was sweat from a great workout in Glen Cove’s Village Square. The Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District’s (BID) Wellness Day event filled the morning with free fitness classes run by local professionals, live music, and vendors for local health and wellness businesses.
Seven half-hour classes took place from 9am until 12pm. The morning was a balance of high energy, intense workouts, and low impact, slow stretches. Level Up Glen Cove opened the event with a high energy workout. Participants then slowed down with a session by Screaming Pigeon Yoga. The day picked back up with an intense class by X Legion Fitness. After, Leah Bush Pilates led people in a beginner friendly session. To celebrate their two-year anniversary, Rumble Boxing held a class in their studio, located in Village Square. Glengariff Healthcare Center demoed their Urban Zen Gentle Body Movement class that they host and is open to the public. The day ended with the soothing sounds of Living Lotus’ sound bowl meditation.
The square was lined with vendors and backtracked with live music by Loving Roots Rock. During the event, people could take a break or go between classes to visit different vendors, learning about what they have to offer and treating themselves to products and freebies. Local vendors included Glen Cove Massage, Dynamic Physical Therapy & Rehab Services, Basket Case Organizing, Analis Body & Beauty Co., Age-Friendly Glen Cove, and Empowerfit. Participating businesses raffled off free classes or other treats; attendees received a ticket for every class they did.
