BROOKLYN, NY — One of Brooklyn’s most popular pizza joints is getting ready to slice its way into a new neighborhood.

Paulie Gee’s Slice Shop, a Greenpoint institution since 2010 that has expanded to Columbus, Chicago, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, is now coming to Gowanus, taking over the former storefront of fellow Brooklyn favorite Ample Hills.

The new location is expected to open later this summer at 305 Nevins Street, between Union and President Streets. News of the expansion first broke last fall, with reports that Paulie Gee’s signed a 10-year lease agreement with landlords Brodsky Organization and Avery Hall Investments, according to brokers Atlantic Retail NYC.

Updates on the new pizzeria have been limited, but the company recently announced on social media that the Gowanus outpost will be opening soon.

Paulie Gee’s began in Greenpoint at 60 Greenpoint Avenue as a sit-down restaurant serving whole pies. It later expanded with a slice shop just down the block at 110 Franklin Street—the model being used for the new Gowanus location.

The slice shop specializes in traditional New York-style slices and whole pies, including square Sicilian-style options. Fan favorites include the Hellboy, a spicy pepperoni slice topped with Mike’s Hot Honey, and the Vodka slice, made with fresh and aged mozzarella over rich vodka sauce

Paulie Gee’s also offers an impressive selection of vegan options, including a plant-based version of the Freddy Prinze, an upside-down Sicilian slice made with Numu vegan mozzarella, vegan sausage, tomato sauce, vegan Parmesan and a sesame seed-crusted bottom.

The new pizzeria is moving into the Gowanus space formerly occupied by Ample Hills Creamery. The ice cream shop had been there since 2014 but closed in late 2022 after the owners were forced to sell the business due to bankruptcy.
