Red Hook Parents Arrested In Child's Death

RED HOOK, BROOKLYN — The parents of a 10-month-old girl who was found dead in her Red Hook apartment last year have been arrested in connection with the death, according to police.

Daniel and Roxanne Hernandez, who live on the corner of Henry and Ninth Streets, were arrested on Thursday and charged with endangerment and acting in a manner injurious to a child, authorities said.

The child, Meilani Hernandez, was found dead in a bathtub inside the apartment in November, police said at the time, and no trauma was found on her body. The baby may have drowned after the parents left it alone, the New York Daily News reported.

The parents were released from jail following a short court hearing, the Daily News reported.

It's unclear why they were arrested months after the child's death.
