For the 35th consecutive year, the Town of Red Hook Conservation Advisory Council (CAC) is seeking applicants for two scholarships for one week of ‘sleep away’ camp at a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Environmental Education Summer Camp. The scholarships are sponsored by the Red Hook VFW Post 7765 and Hendrick Hudson Masonic Lodge #875.

Applicants must be Town of Red Hook residents or attend school in the Red Hook Central School District, and be between the ages of 11-17 (11 years by 12/1/2022). Successful applicants will be selected on the basis of a written application.
Scholarship applications will be available beginning February 11th at the town website at https://www.redhook.org/288/Scholarships and hard copies are available from the Town Clerk. Completed applications must be returned to the Town Clerk or by email to jens96@aol.com by 4pm on March 4, 2022. The winners will be selected and notified by March 6th. Admission to the camp is on a rolling basis; award of scholarship does not guarantee a spot in the camp, and an additional application is required by the NYSDEC. DEC Camper registration will begin March 6, 2022.

The camp is sponsored by and staffed by the NYSDEC. Camp activities combine recreational events, such as hiking and canoeing, with instruction on ecosystems and resources. NYSDEC operates four residential camps: Camp Colby in Saranac Lake, Franklin County; Camp DeBruce in Livingston Manor, Sullivan County; Camp Rushford in Caneadea, Allegany County and Pack Forest in Warrensburg, Warren County.
