Want New B-Ball Courts at the Red Hook Houses? Here's How to Make Them Happen
The court refurbishment is one of three Red Hook-area projects eligible for funding through the city's participatory budgeting process.

RED HOOK, BROOKLYN — As we near the end of 2016’s participatory budgeting vote week, Red Hook residents have until April 3 to vote to fund a variety of neighborhood projects.
The projects you can vote for depends on your representative in the City Council. If you live in Red Hook, you’re probably represented by the 38th District Councilman Carlos Menchaca. (But if you’re not sure who your council member is, you can use this online tool to figure it out.)

All of the eligible projects in Menchaca’s district, as well as the sites where you can vote, are listed on this website.
Some of the initiatives particularly relevant to Red Hook include:

- $500,000 for new picnic and chess tables, benches and barbecue grills at the Red Hook West Senior Center
- $425,000 for a basketball court makeover at 31 Centre Mall in the Red Hook East houses (including new hoops)
- $380,000 for new lockers at South Brooklyn Community High School, among other area school repairs
You do not have to be a registered voter to participate, and anyone 14 and up can cast a ballot. Just bring your ID, a utility bill or some other form of documentation that states your address with you to the polls.
Residents can also vote at Brooklyn Borough Hall, located at 209 Joralemon Street, until April 1. Polls at Borough Hall will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
