Gramercy Fire: Early Morning Blaze Battled For An Hour, FDNY Says
Firefighters battled an early-morning blaze at 40 E 19th St.

GRAMERCY, NY — Firefighters battled an early-morning blaze on the top floor of a Gramercy building for more than an hour Thursday morning, authorities said.
The fire was thought to have started on the top floor of the nine-story building at 40 E. 19th St. about 4:39 a.m. an FDNY spokesman told Patch. It spread fast and needed about 100 firefighters to bring it under control, the spokesman said.

No one was injured in the fire, FDNY said. The fire department said on Thursday afternoon that the blaze was accidental and caused by a grill left unattended. The department said that the building's smoke alarms were present and operational.
