Martin Shkreli Should Serve 15 Years Behind Bars, Prosecutors Say
Prosecutors want the notorious "pharma bro" to face a sentence of 15 years in prison.

MANHATTAN, NY — Federal prosecutors argued that notorious "pharma bro" Martin Shkreli should serve at least 15 years in prison for cheating investors out of money.
In sentencing memo filed on Tuesday, federal prosecutors argued that Shkreli be sentenced to "no less than" 15 years behind bars for his securities fraud conviction.
Shkreli, most famous for hiking up the price of a life-saving drug by 5,000 percent, was convicted of securities fraud last year and is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday. Shkreli's securities fraud conviction was unrelated to his price gouging.

"He lied to get investors’ money, he lied to keep them invested in his funds and he lied once those investors wanted their money back," prosecutors wrote in the scathing filing.
Prosecutors slammed Shkreli's plea for mercy, describing the pharma exec as a "a man who stands before this Court without any showing of genuine remorse." Last week, Shkreli begged for leniency from a federal judge in Brooklyn.

Prosecutors dismissed those statement on Tuesday.
"Rather than rely on self-aggrandizing statements made on the eve of sentencing or handpicked testimonials submitted in support of his request for leniency, the Court should rely on his actions as the best guide to who he truly is and render an appropriate, significant sentence accordingly," they wrote.
