An original play presents modern fables for New Yorkers
"Borough Tails" opens for a limited run in Midtown

Written and performed by a multi-disciplinary ensemble, “Borough Tails: Fables for NYC” opens for a limited run March 8-10, 2023 in Midtown at Houghton Hall Arts Community. The play spins tales of FOMO, slow walkers, transit wisdoms, flirty customers, fears of falling through sidewalk grates, the perks and perils of climbing social trees, and many others. And, staying true to the fable form, the characters are all animals found within the 5 boroughs. Sometimes cautionary, sometimes wacky, Borough Tails is a love-hate letter to the big city its denizens love to love-hate!
Borough Tails emerged from a new play development program called the Company Stew. This program amplifies the artistic voices of the company members by giving them full creative control of what gets imagined, scripted, designed, and performed. “We’re always looking for ways to lift up and support ensemble-generated art,” says Co-Artistic Director Scarlet Maressa Rivera. “We specifically wanted to make sure the idea didn’t come from the top down. We’re an ensemble, we make work together…everybody tosses whatever they want into the Stew, then we see what burbles up!”
