Taxi Riders Punch Driver After Skipping Fare In Gramercy: Cops
One of the three men also stole the cabbie's cellphone at a Park Avenue South intersection, police said.

GRAMERCY, NY — Three men robbed and assaulted a taxi driver at a Gramercy intersection after skipping the fare for their ride on Wednesday, police said. The trio tried to leave the cab without paying at the corner of Park Avenue South and East 22nd Street just after 7 p.m. that evening, the NYPD said.
When the 31-year-old cabbie asked them to pay, the men surrounded the taxi and one of them reached inside and nabbed his cellphone, police said.
One of the men punched the driver in the face as he tried to get his phone back before all three left the scene in an unknown direction, according to police.

The alleged robbers were caught in surveillance photos, police said. They're thought to be 18 to 20 years old.
