Alleged Thief Says Boxer's Bodyguard Told Her To Take Bag: Report

The woman is accused of stealing a professional boxer's bag stuffed with $155K.

FLATIRON DISTRICT, NY — The woman accused of stealing a boxer's bag stuffed with cash and jewelry says her victim's bodyguard asked her to take the valuables when a fight broke out at the club, according to a new report.

Sarah Morin was charged on Monday with stealing a Louis Vuitton bag from Jermall Charlo while the two were partying inside the 40/40 Club, the Manhattan nightclub, which is co-owned by Jay-Z. Police said the bag was filled with $155,000 worth of cash and jewelry

The New York Post reported Morin's claim that Charlo's bodyguard asked Morin to carry the bag out of the club when Charlo and another club patron began arguing. Morin's attorney, Gerard Marrone, said that she had tried to return the bag to the bodyguard shortly after the fight, according to the Post.

"She’s the one holding the bag and that’s why she got arrested. This could happen to anyone," Marrone said.

Marrone said at Morin's arraignment that the she had texted the bodyguard within an hour of leaving the club to try and return the bag.

"They texted back and forth. She said, 'I live in Connecticut.' He said, 'Go home to Connecticut, I’ll have someone pick it up,''' Marrone said.
