Cops Release Surveillance Photos of Armed Robbery Suspect

Man held up two different BP stations in January, police say.

Nassau police continue to search for a suspect wanted in connection with armed robberies at two North Shore gas stations in January.

Police say the man, armed with a handgun, robbed the BP station at 1301 Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park at 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 26. He then went on to rob a BP station at 655 Northern Boulevard in Thomaston at 6:20 p.m., also at gunpoint.

The man is described as stocky and approximately five-foot-eight. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt at the time of the robbery, police said.

In both instances, the suspect entered the gas stations, confronting the victims at gunpoint while verbally demanding money. As Patch previously reported, in both robberies, the man fired his weapon, but no one was struck. Fearing physical injury, the victims complied each time. The suspect was last seen fleeing the scene of the crimes on foot, police said.

Later that week, a gas station attendant was found shot to death at a BP in Jericho. Police have not said if the homicide is connected to the previous armed robberies, though acknowledged that the cases may be related.
