Long Island Weather: Severe Storms With Damaging Winds Possible
Severe storms are possible. See when to expect them and the potential impacts.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Severe thunderstorms are possible on Long Island Thursday night with damaging wind gusts posing the main threat, the National Weather Service says.
A flash flood watch will be in effect for Nassau County from 4 p.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Friday.
"A period of heavy showers and embedded thunderstorms is expected with the approach of a cold front this afternoon into Friday morning," the flood watch says.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the entire island.
"There will be marginal risk for strong to severe thunderstorms tonight with primary threat of damaging winds," the weather service says. "An isolated tornado will be possible."

The chance of storms will be highest Thursday night into early Friday.

The full forecast:
Thursday- Scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Southeast wind 9 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Thursday Night- A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 7pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 68. Southeast wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday- Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 10am, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Steady temperature around 70. West wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Friday Night- A 20 percent chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 57. West wind 3 to 5 mph.
Saturday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 73. North wind around 6 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
Saturday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.
Sunday- Sunny, with a high near 74.
Sunday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 59.
Monday- Sunny, with a high near 72.
